G.W.F. Hegel – Elements of the Philosophy of Right

Hegel - Philosophie des RechtsThere are books you cannot avoid when you study philosophy. For sure, one of them is Hegel’s Elements of the Philosophy of Right – for Marx at least the ‘most consequent, richest and last version’ of German political philosophy. Therefore it surely needs no further explanation, why a group of interested graduate students of philosophy (but also of other fields) want to invite you to discuss Hegel’s text together in an informal round. There is hardly anything better than exposing yourself in that way to a philosophical work for a couple of days – and from experience we know that you always return enlightened in some way or another!
We will meet from the 15th to the 17th of February 2013 in an over 300 year old farmers house located on the hills above the beautiful ‘Bodensee’ that will provide plenty of space for us with its 12 beds in 6 rooms and 2 bathrooms. Surrounded by several acres of meadows, gardens and forests we are going to g through the text chapter by chapter and each participant is going to present one passage and will lead the discussion about it. For the breaks and the evenings besides going for a walk in the breathtaking nature nearby, there will be table tennis and a piano. We will also perform our already known reading a short play with assigned roles (suggestions are very welcome) with which we already spent the evenings of our last seminars.
The deadline for applications is the 1st of February 2013 at forum@theoretische-philosophie.de – We are very much looking forward to your application!
